Hills Shire Music provides structure and clarity to our methods of teaching. Many aspects are thoroughly covered such as correct breathing, finger technique and embosure position to begin a students musical training.
We use many methods of teaching which include notation and also the Kodaly and Suzuki methods where required. By learning both notation and aural skills and providing structured lessons and a variety of methods, students gain many skills when learning the flute. Young beginners in years 1 and 2 who are keen to learn the flute can also choose to start by using a fife which is a smaller instrument. This can help them get used to the techniques required to learn a full sized flute. It is also more economical to start with and can be learned by using tuition books designed for fife. They then move to the full size flute later in year 2 and will definitely be required to use the full size by year 3. It is recommended that students wishing to learn on a full size flute must be in at least year 2 – 3 at school.
A full size flute is taught from the beginning for all levels through to AMEB level exams if required. We have a large flute department with many of our students performing in local school bands. Our students learn to play for enjoyment and to further their playing ability and techniques. Either way with learning the fife or flute, a well structured method will ensure great results.
We offer Flute tuition to students from all areas of the Hills including Castle Hill, Crestwood, Baulkham Hills, Winston Hills, Kellyville, Rouse Hill, Dural, Annangrove, Kenthurst, Bella Vista, Cherrybrook, Pennant Hills, West Pennant Hills and Sydney’s North West.
